Real Madrid 2 – Ajax 0

Los merengues appear to be back on track, making a whopping 35 shots. About half were on target, but excellent Ajax (and Dutch NT) keeper Maarten Stekelenberg kept most of them out. I am fond of Stekelenberg, so I was pleased to see him perform so well, but even more pleased that he missed a couple.

Just after the half-hour mark, Xabi Alonso delivered a corner kick that found its way to the net as Gonzalo Higuaín battled Vurnon Anita for the ball; in the end it was deemed to be an own goal by Anita. Well into the second half, Higuaín secured Real Madrid’s lead with a Mesut Özil assist.

Higuaín, like fellow striker Cristiano Ronaldo, failed to score in Real Madrid’s first two matches of the season, so it’s good to see him back on track. Cristiano continues to suck. In fact, I am going feature a “Cristiano Ronaldo reacts after failing to score” picture every time Real Madrid plays. What do you think?
