Mallorca vs. Real Madrid

Mallorca: Recently signed the closest thing to a Canadian in La Liga, Scarborough-born Jonathan De Guzmán. As you may recall, he is the brother of Toronto FC’s Julian De Guzmán and has chosen to play for the Dutch national team rather than for Canada. We can discuss that later. Mallorca finished in 5th place last season, but have been undergoing financial difficulties (as evidenced by their sponsor-heavy kits). Danish hero and former Barcelona Real Madrid player Michael Laudrup manages.

Real Madrid: Shiny, beautiful, my team of choice. Veterans Raúl and Guti are gone. (I still tear up just thinking about it.) All eyes are on new manager José Mourinho. My eyes are on Casillas, Alonso, Cristiano Ronaldo…. Also, lots of new players. And Sergio Ramos’s haircut. That’s all I have to say about that. (Blogging is hard. Maybe I should be tweeting.)

So, here’s how it went down. De Guzmán did very well in his first La Liga appearance.  I want to finish cutting Sergio Ramos’s hair. I can’t get enough of Casillas. Cristiano Ronaldo looks best in a Madrid kit – the white has a slight purifying effect or something. Despite a bunch of shots, Madrid didn’t manage to score. Not the end of the world, but a little embarrassing. Final result, Mallorca 0 Real Madrid 0.
